Brewery Stainless Steel Sanitary Tubing

Yaolong Hygienic provides brewery stainless steel sanitary tubing manufactured from TP 304/304L and 316/316L stainless steel material, strictly conforming to ASTM A270, DIN 11850, and 3-A Sanitary Standards. Produced via continuous roll forming and precision automatic TIG welding with inert gas shielding, each brewery tube undergoes critical internal weld bead leveling (bead working) and protective atmosphere bright solution annealing at over 1040°C. This completely eliminates residual stresses and restores corrosion resistance, ensuring a seamless, flush weld line and structural homogeneity.

Our brewery stainless steel sanitary tube interior undergoes progressive precision mechanical polishing (MP) to achieve a strictly controlled roughness of Ra ≤ 0.8 μm (32 μin) or down to Ra ≤ 0.5 μm (20 μin), verified by 100% eddy current testing (ECT) for defect-free reliability. The crevice-free inner surface effectively prevents the accumulation of beerstone, trub, and wild yeast. Designed for high-frequency CIP (Clean-in-Place) and SIP (Sterilization-in-Place) cycles, this tubing is widely applied in brewhouse systems, fermenters (CCT), brite beer tanks (BBT), and beer packaging lines.

Quality Control

Our brewery stainless steel sanitary tubing manufactured strictly from prime 304/304L and 316/316L stainless steel material, offering 100% heat number traceability and EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificates (MTC). The complete production chain—from strip slitting, continuous roll forming, automated TIG welding with inert backing gas, to internal weld bead leveling and solution annealing—is strictly controlled. Dimensional tolerances, concentricity, and wall thickness uniformity comply with ASTM A270, DIN 11850, and 3-A Sanitary Standards, ensuring dependable sanitary performance in commercial brewing.

Testing & Inspection

To prevent product leakage and microbiological contamination under fermentation pressure, every batch of brewery stainless steel sanitary tube undergoes comprehensive testing. This includes precision dimensional checks, visual inspection, and inner surface roughness (Ra) profiling. We conduct non-destructive Eddy Current Testing (ECT) and hydrostatic pressure testing to ensure 100% weld integrity and fatigue resistance against cyclic thermal and pressure loads during brewing. Complete inspection reports and MTC documentation are supplied for smooth brewery installation and engineering approval.

Mechanical Tests

To ensure the highest surface quality, our brewery stainless steel sanitary tubing goes beyond the requirements of ASTM A269 and A270 by performing the full battery of ASTM bend and deformation tests required by ASME SA249. The tests, combined with specific raw material requirements, Eddy Current testing at the tube mill, 100% borescoping prior to mechanical polish, and tighter OD and wall tolerances, allows for a more consistent, superior quality product.

Surface Finish

Internal surface finish is critical to prevent beerstone (calcium oxalate), hop resins, and wild yeast harboring. Our brewery stainless steel tubes feature precision Mechanical Polishing (MP) with surface roughness controlled at Ra ≤ 0.8 μm (32 μin) for standard cellar lines and Ra ≤ 0.5 μm (20 μin) for sterile sampling and high-gravity fermentation. Electropolishing (Ra ≤ 0.4 μm / 15 μin EP) is also available upon request. The crevice-free interior eliminates fluid stagnation, streamlining CIP (Clean-in-Place) caustic/acid wash cycles and reducing washdown water usage.

Bright Annealing & Heat Treatment

All ASTM A270 sanitary tubes undergo full solution annealing at temperatures above 1040°C followed by rapid quenching. This process completely restores maximum corrosion resistance, eliminates residual welding stress, and enhances material ductility. For sensitive food and beverage applications, we supply Bright Annealed (BA) tubing, which features a mirror-like, oxide-free internal finish that minimizes surface micro-voids and optimizes total process hygiene.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose between 304/304L and 316/316L stainless steel for brewery tubing?

304 / 304L Stainless Steel: The industry standard and most cost-effective choice for general brewery installations. It is ideal for mash and lauter tuns, hot liquor tanks (HLT), hot/cold wort transfer, standard fermentation vessels (CCT/Unitanks), and brite beer tanks (BBT).

316 / 316L Stainless Steel: Enhanced with 2–3% Molybdenum to provide superior pitting and acid resistance. It is highly recommended for sour beer brewing, high-acidity fruit additions, aggressive hot caustic/nitric acid CIP cycles, and glycol/saline cooling loops.

What internal surface roughness (Ra) is recommended to prevent beerstone and yeast buildup?

Standard Brewhouse Lines: Internal roughness is typically controlled at Ra ≤ 0.8 μm (32 μin) using multi-stage mechanical polishing (MP).

High-Hygiene & Sterile Process Lines: Requires Ra ≤ 0.5 μm (20 μin) for pure yeast brinks, sterile sampling ports, and bright beer lines.

Why It Matters: An ultra-smooth, crevice-free internal finish eliminates microscopic micro-voids where beerstone (calcium oxalate) and wild yeast can adhere, ensuring fast, effective chemical CIP washdowns with reduced water consumption.

Is Electropolishing (EP) necessary for brewery sanitary tubing, or is Mechanical Polishing (MP) sufficient?

For the vast majority of commercial brewing applications, precision Mechanical Polishing (MP) to Ra ≤ 0.8 μm (32 μin) or Ra ≤ 0.5 μm (20 μin) fully satisfies 3-A sanitary guidelines and provides exceptional cleanability during daily CIP/SIP cycles.

Electropolishing (EP, Ra ≤ 0.4 μm / 15 μin) is considered an optional upgrade, typically reserved for ultra-critical areas such as pure strain yeast propagation systems and aseptic microfiltration lines.

Which international standards and connection systems are compatible with your brewery tubing?

Standard Compliance: Fully certified to ASTM A270, DIN 11850 (Series 2), ISO 2037, and 3-A Sanitary Standards.

Fittings & Connections: Manufactured with strict outer diameter (OD) and roundness tolerances to support automated orbital welding, integrating seamlessly with standard Tri-Clamp ferrules, DIN 11851 sanitary unions, SMS / RJT fittings, and hygienic butterfly valves.

Why are internal weld bead leveling and bright annealing critical for brewery pipelines?

Internal Weld Bead Leveling: Rolls the weld seam flush with the tube interior, eliminating recessed crevices and bead protrusions that could disrupt laminar flow or trap trub and bacteria.

Bright Solution Annealing (≥1040°C): Relieves residual stresses from cold roll forming and restores chromium distribution along the grain boundaries, preventing intergranular stress corrosion caused by thermal cycling (hot wort vs. cold CIP) and harsh chemical sanitizers.
